Internet Dangers for Kids

Internet Privacy Standards (According to Google and Microsoft)
The big news in the tech industry this week is the fight over the future of Yahoo. But there's a sideshow worth watching for those interested in Washington tech policy: Today is the last day of the Federal Trade Commission's public comment period on online privacy principles and behavioral advertising.
Not surprisingly, the two biggest figures in the wheeling and dealing over Yahoo's future play a big role here, too. Both have submitted comments on the FTC rules, and the differences between them may demarcate the future lines of the debate.
First a very quick definition: Behavioral advertising is the collection and use of information about Internet users’ web browsing behavior to target them for advertising purposes.
To use a very extreme example, behavioral advertising could mean that advertising companies could compile databases detailing whether someone visits web sites focusing on religion, medical, or sexual-orientation matters — and then use that information to tailor ads to that person, even after he has moved on to other web site

For 2015, It's What's Inside That Counts - By Nancy Trejos
Washington Post Staff Writer Saturday, August 11, 2007; Page F01
The average family may be smaller than it was 10 years ago, but the average single-family house is larger -- and more luxurious. It has more bathrooms, higher ceilings, more elaborate master bedrooms, and bigger kitchens and outdoor space.
So what will the average home look like in the next decade?
More than 300 architects, designers, manufacturers and marketing experts interviewed by phone or surveyed by the National Association of Home Builders last year predicted that the average U.S. home in 2015 will not be any bigger. What it will be, they said, is much more luxurious.

Loving Circles - Life on earth is a brief adventure. When we are born, we are clearly loving presence. Our spirit is here to experience the joy, love, freedom, drama and the messiness of being a physically limited being. The first realization we have as a baby is that without help we will not survive. This realization never leaves us and for the rest of our lives we are looking for the sense of safety, security and belonging that we can never have.
At Loving Circles, we are guides in this awakening process. We assist those on the edge to discover their own truths. We are dedicated to helping people live heart-centered lives and to see the gifts in everything that has happened so far. When we choose to wake up, evolution happens. There's no need to think about it. Moment by moment, loving presence makes a home in our hearts. Saying "yes" to life's happenings keeps inviting the awakening to continu

Internet Captures Half of Spare Time - MAY 15, 2007
Broadband users make online time a priority.
Broadband users spend almost half their spare time in a typical weekday online, according to Media-Screen's "Netpop|Play" report.
A copy of the study provided to eMarketer stated that the average broadband user spent an hour and 40 minutes of her typical weekday spare time online. Over half of that time online was devoted to entertainment and communication.

Lifeboat Foundation InternetShield
As the Internet grows in importance, an attack on it could cause physical as well as informational damage. An attack today on hospital systems or electric utilities could lead to deaths. In the future an attack could be used to alter the output that is produced by nanofactories worldwide leading to massive deaths. This program looks for solutions to prevent such attacks, or at least reduce the damage caused by them.

Partners in Responsible Tourism (PIRT) is a San Francisco Bay Area network of individuals from tourism companies, education and conservation organizations who have a strong interest in adventure travel and ecotourism, who are concerned about the impact of tourism and tourism development on local environments and cultures, particularly those of indigenous peoples. We believe that responsible tourism promotes positive cultural and environmental ethics and practices: we promote travel which supports these goals.

The World of Travel in 2020
The explosion in world tourism is one of the most remarkable economic and social phenomena of the last half-century.

Tourism is now one of the world’s largest industries and accounts for 12% of international spending and generates 1 in 12 jobs worldwide. Europe’s tourism industry alone generates 32% of the world’s total economic output and is the major generator of outbound international tourism, accounting for 54% of global travel.
The WTO (World Tourism Organisation) forecasts predict steady growth for the global tourism industry in the next 15 years. In particular rising levels of prosperity across the globe and the emergence of a newly affluent middle class in China, India, Eastern Europe and the Americas would suggest a rosy future for the travel industry. However, behind these economic variables there are a series of underlying social, cultural, political and technological factors at work that are driving change in consumer attitudes and behaviour.
