Slicing Up Silicon for Cheaper Solar
A California startup is cutting by half the amount of costly silicon used in solar panels.
Solaria, a startup based in Fremont, CA, intends to cut the cost of solar panels by decreasing the amount of expensive material required. It has recently started shipping its first panels to select customers. This spring the company will begin production of solar panels at a factory built to produce 25 megawatts of solar panels per year.

Het eerste exemplaar is overhandigd aan Yvonne Timmerman-Buck, voorzitter van de Eerste Kamer. Zij verving Minister President Jan-Peter Balkenende die per brief liet weten dat hij de boodschap van het boek van harte steunt en het boek ziet als een praktisch en inspirerend middel op weg naar een duurzame wereld.Overigens kreeg Rakhorst van dagvoorzitter Beau van Erven Dorens de ‘kolenhoed’ opgezet die GroenLinks fractievoorzitter Femke Halsema op Prinsjesdag nog weigerde te dragen. 

Online Buzz on Environmental Issues Up 169 Percent from a Year Ago
Prolonged online buzz about the environmental terms "green" and "sustainability" suggest that heightened awareness of environmental issues is much more than a passing fad, according to a Nielsen BuzzMetrics report on consumer-generated media, writes MarketingCharts.
Buzz about the term "sustainability" peaked on blogs, boards and discussion groups after the February 25 telecast of The Oscars (see graph 1) as Al Gore's "Inconvenient Truth" took home the Oscar for Documentary Feature, according to the Nielsen BuzzMetrics Q2 2007 Sustainability Buzz Report.
Still, "sustainability" has remained a persistent issue in the blogosphere, with buzz levels on this term up 169 percent in July 2007 from a year earlier, BuzzMetrics said.
